Montana State University-Billings Analysis of the Mona Lisa Amy Bone Art History 101 Shanna Fliegel November 4, 2014 Bone 1 The Mona Lisa is a portrait of a woman painted by Leonardo Da Vinci between 1503 and 1506. Leonardo Da Vinci was born April 15, 1452 in Vinci, Italy and died May 2, 1519 in Amboise, France. He painted the Mona Lisa using oil on White Lombardy Poplar panel. (â€Å"Mona Lisaâ€Å") The finished size of the Mona Lisa is 30  ¼Ã¢â‚¬  x 21†. He painted the Mona Lisa in Florence, Italy and it is now on display at the Louvre, in Paris, France. No one knows for sure who the woman in the portrait is. The woman is believed to be Lisa Del Giocondo, the wife of a silk merchant, but it has also been rumored to be a painting of a man dressed in drag. The Mona Lisa is a painting of a woman who appears to be sitting. She has a half smile which gives her a serene appearance, folded hands, and eyes that look just to the side and appear to follow you. In addition, the position of her hands and the highlighting of her breast and brow, in line with the rest of her body form a perfect pyramid shape. There is a beautiful landscape behind her with hills, water and a dirt path. The use of color in this painting is very subdued and dark as opposed to bright and vibrant. The colors of the landscape and face are lighter than the dark colors used for the body and hair of the Mona Lisa. The lines in this painting seem oblique rather than sharp and defining. The

His father was a merchant that traded wine and other things, and there is where Christopher Columbus worked. They were considered to be the lower middle class back in this time. This town was almost surrounded entirely by sea, and there were a lot of sailors. Christopher Columbus grew tired of working on land and became fascinated by the ocean and sailing, so when he became a teenager he got a job working on a merchant ship. Were he stayed out at sea until fourteen seventy, when pirates attacked the ship he was working on. Christopher Columbus managed to escape on an ore, and floated for days until he reached the Portuguese coast. Portugal was the leader of ocean navigation during this time and this was a perfect place for Columbus.
